Current Event #5; UN Members Lacking Funds

So everyone knows about the United Nations, correct? If you don't, you should probably go back to United States History but really, the U.N. was established right after World War Two to replace the League of Nations. The primary goal of the U.N. is to achieve "world peace", theoretically. As of this moment, there are 192 countries all around the world that are apart of this organization. Now in order for this organization to be successful, there has to be money of course!

Times are getting tough, not only here in the U.S. but many other nations are discovering that funding this world peace organization takes a chunk of cash out of their own banks. In the past and even right now, the U.S. remains to be "the top contributor to the U.N." However now only 22 out of the 192 nations comprising the U.N. has paid their dues in full. ["Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Canada, Congo, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Niger, the Philippines, Singapore, Italy, Slovakia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and Tajikistan."] The U.S., and the rest of the 89.6% have yet to cough up the cash, $3.1 billion for the 2008/09 year to be exact. Fortunately, the U.N. is a pretty understanding organization and is not pressuring or threatening any nation who hasn't paid yet.

I am glad that the U.N. is still giving all the nations an equal chance to be a part of the organization without resorting to expel members whom haven't paid. It's also great that such an organization exists to promote the peace but I've never really heard a lot coming from the U.N.'s benches lately. I'm almost certain that the War in the Middle East is causing sourness and confusion among members. I'm hoping they think of a good plan SOON to eventually end this madness.

Wow, I actually did not know about it. There are a lot of countries that have not paid what they have to, even though times are really hard for every country I think that such a big organization will not achieve any success if it does not have the money to start with; I am pretty sure that this is one of the reasons why we don’t hear a lot from the U.N. simply because there are no money to do what they need to do.
