I believe the ideal Herndon High principal should be a kind understanding person. However, he or she CANNOT be creepy or unapproachable such as some in the past. Also, the new principal must be able to see us as young adults, even though some may not act as such, and posting the so-called "motivational posters" around the school would have been a good idea if there were a quote, concept, or some sort of meaning behind it other than the displayed "You can do it!" That was downright embarrassing and I expect the new principal to be above all that. The new principal should be someone who is a genuinely warm and personable person, not someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. I also believe that the new principal should get rid of existing pointless rules such as no food leaving the cafeteria. In the past, a lot of teachers would allow students to come in during their lunch and finish up a test after being able to go to the cafeteria and buying lunch. I know a lot of journalism and yearbook people sometimes don't even have a chance to eat their lunch because they must meet deadlines and in doing so, must work through their lunch. I think this rule is pretty terrible and should be done away with altogether. All in all, the new principal should be someone inspiring and someone the students can look up to. That's the most important quality I'm looking for. It just so happens Mr. Bates is going to be our new principal! I believe that he demonstrates all of these qualities plus, I know him personally and he really is a good guy. Congratulations, Mr. Bates!!!
