Current Event #1; North & South Korea Unite

It's a shame that we still live in a world with constant warfare and meaningless grudges. It is nearly impossible to stop all altercations but it's great to see that we are all beginning to build up tolerance. I recently came across this article about how North and South Korea temporarily abolished their borders to allow the citizens to reunite with one another. Now, we all know that relations between the two Koreas haven't been very good at all and so my initial reaction was heartfelt. Then I began to realize, "Why is there a 'barrier' up in the first place?" I know it gets all technical and whatnot, but really, it's a shame that such atrocities still exist. Every one looked at the Berlin Wall as a cruel barrier dividing a nation and essentially Korea is a divided nation. I just wish that the U.S. could help by speaking out, but pretty much all other nations hate how we always get involved into their own business. This article initiated that this gesture was "North Korea's olive branch to it's rival, South Korea". I really do think that this is a great start to improve relations between two very contradicting nations. I hope that North and South Korea can look past the past and strive for a better future. I see this significant notion as progress though. We all have to take things one step at a time.

The reunions are definitely a way for the two divided countries to restore their relations with each other. It is painful to even think that many families have been separated since the end of the Korean War and are only meeting now after such a long time. Maybe North Korea agreed to resume the reunion program to ease the recent tension over their nuclear and missile programs.

That's what I was thinking--I hope North Korea is trying to turn over a new leaf with their fellow neighbor South Korea.
