Earlier this week, an article was released claiming that the Afghan Taliban "had and have no plan of harming countries of the world, including those in Europe ... [their] goal is the independence of the country and the building of an Islamic state". Let's rewind a little bit though. Exactly eight years ago marked the United States' invasion that overthrew the Taliban-run government. However, after the Talibans were defeated, they refused to name the al Qaeda leaders responsible for the September 11th attacks. That's when the American troops started to really set in and try to get an answer out of them. Right now there are over 100,000 foreign troops inhabiting the nation, two-thirds of the troops are American. President Obama says that "defeating the militants is a top foreign policy priority" but the Talibans fired back "if you [NATO and U.S. troops] want to colonize the country of proud and pious Afghans under the baseless pretext of a war on terror, then you should know that our patience will only increase and that we are ready for a long war."
I personally find this article aggravating on so many levels. On one hand, I understand that the Talibans didn't "plan on harming countries of the world", but then again they're doing it anyways! One would think it's kind of embarrassing that they cannot even run one country and they need "100,000 foreign troops" advocating the beliefs of a proper government yet they still continue to resist intervention as if their plan was working so well. And "the baseless pretext of a war on terror"...seriously? Need I remind them that many innocent Afghani civilians are still killed every year by the Taliban and al Qaeda members whom are still at large despite the thousands of troops. I know it's not the country's fault as a whole, but it really has to do with corruption within the political sphere. The Taliban's messages are so hypocritical and contradictory it really is aggravating. They need to stop acting as if they're so innocent and oblivious to the fact that they're not fooling anyone.

I have to say I think the Talibans are still a threat to other countries and to their own people. Although Afghanistan as a whole is not responsible, the Al Queda and Talibans are. The Talibans and Pakistanis are constantly fighting each other resulting in a lot of death, so the author of the article that said the Afghan Talibans had no intentions of hurting other countries is obviously living in some alternate world!
Exactly, but the author himself wasn't the one who claimed the Afghan Taliban "had no intentions of hurting other countries", he was simply reporting that the Taliban had said that themselves. So like I said, the Taliban are in some sort of state of disillusion regarding how they portray themselves to the world.
The Middle East as a whole is one big complicated situation, and I totally understand why you found this article a bit annoying. So many terrorist groups-- such as the Taliban, of course-- send out so many attacks and then hide from retaliations under the pretense that it's not the country itself who's doing the attacking, so the U.S. has no excuse to fight back. And since they're almost-but-not-really-right when we fight back it looks like we're the bad ones. ):
I know! It kind of sucks because most people blame the U.S. for getting into other nations' business. I guess it kind of has to do with our past foreign relations and interferences--not so great.
so...The Afghan Taliban "had and have no plan of harming countries of the world, including those in Europe...".but they have no problem fighting to restore order in their own nation, while killing many innocent people. They want independence of the country and the building of an Islamic state but the Taliban and al Qaeda members cant stop from killing people every year. There needs to be some kind of order, even though having the troops over there doesn't seem to help much...but something needs to happen.
Yea, things are pretty backwards over there in my opinion. I just wish some sort of compromise can be made amongst themselves so all this craziness can stop.
